Just Keep Going_Displacement was installed at the Monash Law Chambers for a public discussion on displacement. It was there that I spoke publicly about my experience of evacuation for the first time.
The legal and academic setting asked for clear explanations and evidence. Someone working at the Chambers kindly suggested I add a panel explaining what the work represented. I understood the kindness, but I could not do it. No statement came. Instead I let the work stand as an accumulation of lines that could not be read as a clear statement.
The installation was planned for a single day, but at the request of the Chambers it stayed on display for nearly a month. Something had resonated, though what exactly could not be named. I took a family photo within the installation, a quiet assertion: we are here, and surviving is enough.
